Ableton Live is a software product created for musicians who are looking for the most effective way to compose music and improvise using a computer.
The developers have made a lot of effort to make the Live interface convenient and easy to use. At the same time Live has unique opportunities to create computer music with unlimited complexity and diversity. Ableton Live is a product that has emerged through participation in the development and testing of experimenting musicians with new ideas and technologies. Therefore, it demonstrates the direction in which computer music and software for its creation will most likely develop.
Ableton Live is a program written by musicians for musicians. At the very beginning, Robert Henke and Gerhard Beles, formed the project "Monolake", playing electronic music, looking for a better way to create your own music using a computer, and play it from the stage. They worked for the well-known company Native Instruments, which to this day is one of the most reputable companies in the niches of soft synths and software for sound design. At the beginning of this century, the music software industry lacked a convenient software solution that would facilitate the process of creating music. At that time, the musicians wanted the process of writing music based on an intuitive approach, and there was a small amount of spontaneity.
In 2000, Robert and Gerhard founded Ableton and released Live 1.0, a programs that so far worked only with audio files and was focused on the live performance mode (Live Performance).
What made Live so unique from the very first day of the programs release was the Session View. He had the appearance of a custom grid of slots that were used for the organization and playback of musical elements that are called clips.
Most other music sequencers are organized around a timeline, which is used to place music elements on it from left to right, in the form of an arrangement. The Session View mode in Live allows music elements to be played in any order interactively, on the fly, improvised, with all elements synchronized, i.e. following the overall pace of the project.
This is a very flexible and interactive process, which has traditionally been dominated by groove boxes, some synthesizers, loopers (looper), and drum machines. Live combined this way of working with the power of modern software, giving us all the best of both worlds.
As with the earlier versions of the program, the new sample of software technologies in the form of Ableton Live 10 has set a high bar in the development of electronic music and live performances.
Ableton's Live 10 program has caused a revolution in the world of music software, turning computers into real musical instruments with the ability to play them without appreciable damage to performance, unlike many previously known digital audio workstations.
In Live 10 you will find different features, among them multi-track audio and MIDI recording, non-linear editing, pitch shifting, track freezing (freezing), audio signal delay compensation, and others. All these features were introduced to Live during its long development path, and have always been closely linked to the solution of the main current needs of DJs and musicians.
Ableton Live is widely used for live performances, sound installations, and in General for almost any musical action in the Studio or on the stage, which can draw your imagination. Unlike other programs, which are based on traditional DJ approaches and techniques, Live allows the artist to create a fully customizable software and hardware environment, which is limited only by imagination.
