Here’s an overview of how to use the ASIO4ALL. ASIO, or Audio Stream Input/Output, is an audio card driver protocol for input or output of an audio stream, developed by the Steinberg company. ASIO4ALL picks up the audio stream from the program and directs it to the sound card, bypassing the system and allowing to set a minimum delay and high accuracy between the application and the computer's audio card. The ASIO driver provides a high-fidelity interface and a low-latency (delay between an application sending audio information and the information being reproduced by the sound card, or signals from the sound card available to the application), between the sound card and the software application.
ASIO4ALL connects to the sound card hardware directly, bypassing the normal path of the digital audio signal from the user application through the Windows OS layers. Each layer bypassed by the ASIO driver causes a decrease in delay, or latency. In the presence of several audio devices, one can be used for input, and another - for output. It allows the sound from the USB microphone to go on record and playback through the internal sound card, or when you have two sound cards that you want to record at the same time. While ASIO4ALL is generally compatible with Microsoft Windows, there’s also a low-latency 2007 Linux-compatible version.
